The Beauty of Small
“The Weekender” embodies the mantra that less is more. It’s not just about downsizing; it’s about embracing a lifestyle where simplicity and functionality allows us to enjoy the things that really matter – like getting out into nature and discover new horizons.
To achieve this, we thought long and hard about exactly what design elements to take from our larger van kits – and what to leave behind. For example, a key feature of our A series side units is the folding table. But small vans don’t have the headroom to sit upright comfortably; so we left out the table.
First priority: a bed large enough to stretch out in comfort, that quickly converts to a space-optimising sofa.
Second priority: lots of easy-access storage, even when the bed is out.
For our new B4 compact pull-out bed, we gave it a ventilated, dual-entry storage box that’s perfect for a food cooler.
Then for our A1 side unit we kept it slimline to increase cabin space, with just enough storage for essentials, and a 12l water container.
The reason we created the Weekender is the same reason we started Simple Vans – converting a beautiful campervan yourself should be fun, easy… and it doesn’t need to cost the earth!
The rise in fuel prices, the soaring costs of converted vans, and the significant increase in height barriers in parking lots are leading to a shift in the behavior of van travelers who are turning towards more affordable and compact options. Freedom and adventure are perfectly achievable in a small van such as the Kangoo or the Berlingo, but are also more accessible to a larger number of nomadic travelers. These small vans are easier to park, more affordable in terms of price, enjoyable to drive, and much more fuel-efficient.
As with all our kits, The Weekender makes the conversion process a breeze. Our kit is engineered for DIY enthusiasts and novices alike, and can be assembled and installed in less than 5 hours, requiring no special tools – all you need is wood glue and a screwdriver.
